Senior Accountant

Position overview
We have a full-time permanent opportunity for a Senior Accountant in the Finance Department. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate accounting, analysis, and reporting of complex revenue streams and related estimates for the Vancouver Airport Authority.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing oversight of junior accounting resources, supporting audit and compliance requirements, and offering advisory guidance to internal stakeholders on revenue-related accounting matters.
- Apply and interpret the applicable GAAP standard related to revenue recognition, deferred revenue, contract accounting, and leases.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue estimates and accruals, including judgmental and complex estimates.
- Support period-end close and reporting activities related to revenue and associated balance sheet accounts.
- Oversee and review the work of the Junior Accountant including reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
- Support Finance transformation initiatives, system enhancements, and process automations related to revenue.
Key qualifications include:
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience in financial reporting, revenue accounting, and estimates and internal controls supplemented by a degree in Business, Commerce, Accounting or a related discipline.
- CPA designation.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge of ASNPO and IFRS, particularly revenue recognition and complex estimates and disclosure requirements.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills for judgmental accounting matters.
- Strong oral and written communication skills for preparing technical memos and explaining accounting conclusions, with the ability to communicate outcomes effectively with all levels of the organization.
Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers. This position is open to Vancouver Airport Authority and external candidates. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.
Salary Range : $92,515 to $120,910 per annum, based on a 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.
